Tell us a bit about yourself: I am currently located in Fort Worth, TX by way of Minnesota. My children are the best (I may be a little biased). I have a daughter, Zion, who is 2 1/2 and a son, Xavier, who is 11 months old. I just launched Mel&N in mid October and am still working as a junior high history teacher.

What inspired your business? Motherhood inspired the idea of Mel&N. I wanted my children to be proud of their rich heritage but also stylish, of course. Our designs are simple but carry a strong message of empowerment. Mel&N is a play off the word melanin. I wanted the vision of the brand to be clear in the name, to celebrate the Black experience, but in a playful and inclusive manner.

Dreams/plans for the future: I am excited to scale Mel&N into a nationally recognized brand. The goal is to have the brand available in national department stores within the next 5 years.
